Rapid Micro Biosystems to Present at 2015 Annual PDA Meeting in Las Vegas

rapidchangeswithinpharmaceuticalmanufacturingNext week,  March 16 and 17th, Rapid Micro Biosystems will be exhibiting at the Parenteral Drug Association's 2015 Annual Meeting at the Red Rock Casino Resort and Spa in Las Vegas, Nevada. This year's conference will focus on the rapid changes within pharmaceutical manufacturing: increasingly complex products, evolving regulations, new technologies and the resultant need to improve performance and streamline workflows.

In addition, two scientists from Rapid Micro Biosystems will be presenting posters during the event.

“Sterility Testing – The Detection of Stressed Microorganisms in Seven Days.”

Presented by Sommer Vogel, this poster covers the rapid detection of stressed microorganisms. This poster will describe the detection of stressed organisms using the Growth DirectTM Sterility Test, showing that final results can be obtained within seven days. The data presented will include stressors such as heat, desiccation and disinfectants, applied to a variety of organisms including bacterial spores, mold spores, human-associated microorganisms and common environmental contaminants. Viewers will come to understand the physiological changes that occur in stressed microorganisms, and how those changes can potentially affect their manufacturing processes and sterility tests.

“Optimizing Bioburden Testing of Mammalian Cell Culture Samples Through the Use of Differential Lysis, Membrane Filtration and Analysis.”

This poster, presented by Andy Sage, discusses a one-step differential lysis method. The method selectively digests mammalian cells while not affecting contaminant microbes. This technique has effectively lysed 10 mL cell cultures samples of up to 1 x 108 cell / mL and tested them using membrane filtration. In fact, testing has exhibited equivalent recovery of spiked test microbes and control samples. The method allow larger volumes of  mammalian cell culture samples to be filtered and tested using a rapid method leveraging membrane filtration for sample preparation versus traditional spread plating.
