Sr. Manager, Project Management

RMB is looking for a project manager to head up its project management function, with 10+ years of experience managing complex product development projects, and 5+ years managing direct reports within this profession.  In addition to driving complex highly cross-functional projects, you’ll be responsible for managing project managers (direct straight-line reports) and individuals assigned as project managers (dot-lining into you) from other groups and organizations.  Ownership and accountability are woven into your fabric, and you have a track record of inspiring your teams to deliver results on time within challenging timelines and budgets.  You’re a problem solver and get excited by challenges that require out-of-the-box thinking to find solutions to. You’re collaborative by nature, but can make hard sometimes unpopular decisions and implement them effectively.  The thrill of releasing and launching new high-quality cutting-edge products into the market inspires you.  Your energy and inspiration influences your teams and propagates a can-do attitude.  In short, if you’re passionate about driving technologically challenging product development projects and delivering timely results, and love working with talented engineers and scientists in a matrix organization, this opportunity is for you.  This highly visible position reports directly to the VP of Product Development.

We recently won a major multi-year $7 million-dollar contract from BARDA (the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority) for the development of a rapid Sterility Kit for our Growth Direct system. This is a high-visibility major initiative for the company. The team consists of a professional project manager, a principal investigator (lead engineer), and a cross functional team of internal and external resources, consultants and contractors. You’ll be responsible for driving this team and initiative forward, reviewing resource requirements, identifying risks and developing mitigation plans, and achieving milestones on time and within budget. You will also provide monthly updates directly to the CEO and Leadership Team. 

Core Responsibilities

  • Develop plans, schedules, budgets, deliverables, and resource requirements by reviewing project proposals and/or user requirement documents for cross-functional projects
  • Drive cross-functional project teams from start to finish
  • Identify project risks and develop risk mitigation plans
  • Develop schedule, work breakdown structures, and identify critical path
  • Work with systems engineers to create functional block diagram and create interface requirements for the major sub-assemblies
  • Maintains project schedule by monitoring project progress; coordinating activities; resolving problems
  • Ensure projects follow company product development process and required deliverables
  • Prepare for and conduct project phase gate reviews
  • Oversee and ensure all project deliverables are met
  • Conduct routine project meeting, capture and follow up on meeting action items
  • Create and maintain dashboards for communicating to the senior leadership team
  • For more focused projects (that can be largely executed by one group), work with that group to ensure they are developing plans consistent with the appropriate development process

Position Requisites

  • B.S. Degree in ME, SE or EE engineering disciplines.
  • 10+ years managing technical projects.
  • Experience managing government awarded grants such as SBIR/STTR
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Experience with systems engineering preferred.
  • PMP certification a plus.
  • Experience managing projects within ISO-13485 regulations.
  • Experience with MS Word, Excel, and Project.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Excellent written and oral communication.
