Senior Scientist

 Job Description:

We are seeking a Senior Scientist to manage and lead development teams consisting of scientists, engineers, and quality personnel.  The position will be to oversee the day-to-day work of junior microbiologists in the R&D microbiology group reporting the Director of R&D Microbiology. This person will drive product development, improvement, and support activities associated with the Growth Direct™ System and its consumables,  Other responsibilities include planning and execution of experiments to support R&D and development, validation of new products, and troubleshooting of issues that may arise. Must have good management skills and experience driving projects to completion within budget and under aggressive time|Ines. The candidate will also have excellent analytical skills and experience designing and executing experiments within GLP/GMP environment. Must have microbiological experience with testing practices used in the F&B/Biotech\Pharmaceutical environment.

Duties and Resposibilities:

  • Work with the Director of Microbiology R&D to plan and design study plans
  • Oversee daily functions of Micro R&D laboratory and manage junior scientists
  • Drive R&D Microbiology projects
  • Provide regular analysis, updates and written reports to Micro R&D Director
  • Assist commercial activities through generation of written content from technical briefs to peer-reviewed publications

Requirements:

PhD in microbiology with 2+ years (or MS in microbiology with 5+ years) experience in industry microbiology environments, preferably GMP\GLP. Candidates with degrees in other fields will be considered with strong, appropriate experience in an industry GMP\GLP microbiology environment, Experience with growth media and formulation, including familiarity with associated scale-up, production and manufacturing validation. Experience managing multidisciplinary project teams and/or direct reports.

  • Growth media development, formulation and production validation experience
  • Action oriented self-starter
  • Familiar with manufacturing processes and validation
  • DOE (Design of Experiments) a plus
  • Able to work in cross-functional teams
  • Experience operatlng in GMP laboratory
  • Work within schedule / budget constraints
  • Comfortable performance hands-on tasks in laboratory
  • Excellent trouble-shooting skills
  • Project management skills, MS Project experience is a plus
  • Proactive, not reactive
  • High accountability (see it, own it, solve it)
  • Some travel may be required <10%
  • PDA, ASMB associations desired
  • Ability to work nights and weekends on occasion to meet critical deadlines
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, but comfortable working in regulated environments
